A Brief history of brazilian music

“A Brief History of Brazilian Music”. Online open-class, discussing the evolution of Brazilian music through the lenses of struggling classes, in the midst of lots of racial/social tension and incredibly creative music. This will be a brief 45-min journey from the first Modinhas to the classic sambas to the MPB and Tropicalia. The class is divided into 5 social "spaces" that represent different periods of the history of Brazil:

1. The Slave Ships (precursors)

2. The Cabarets (Choro and Maxixe)

3. The Street Carnaval (Samba)

4. The Copacabana Palace (Bossa Nova)

5. The Universities (MPB)
